Treating wastewater in Hawai’i is essential for human health
According to the government of Hawai’i’s Department of Health, “there are approximately 88,000 cesspools in the State, with nearly 50,000 located on the Big Island, almost 14,000 on Kauai, over 12,000 on Maui, over 11,000 on Oahu and over 1,400 on Molokai.” The untreated wastewater “contains pathogens such as bacteria, protozoa and viruses that can cause gastroenteritis, Hepatitis A, conjunctivitis, leptospirosis, salmonellosis and cholera.”
Meeting Certification Standards for the State of Hawai’i
We are testing and certifying this system per NSF-245 standards for Wastewater Nitrogen Reduction in Hawai'i.
This certification will officially make this solution a viable (and aesthetically pleasing) alternative for homeowners.
Cost-Effective Alternatives for Home Owners
Cesspool upgrades have been made mandatory by 2050 per the statewide cesspool conversion plan. Bioreactor gardens are far less expensive remediation than standard options.
This cost-effectiveness will allowing more low-income homeowners the flexibility to upgrade their cesspools.
