Ridge to Reefs is working with Maui Nui Marine Resource Council (Maui Nui), Sunshine Vetiver Solutions, The University of Hawai’i Maui College and Maui County to provide a viable, affordable alternative to groundwater injection disposal of wastewater.
Groundwater injection of wastewater has been shown to negatively impact coral reefs. This green infrastructure solution can be scaled up to treat the entire volume of water being injected into the groundwater to safe standards. This would protect groundwater, near shore coral reefs, and result in improved ecosystem health and resilience.
