Pollution Reduction

Team collecting samples in Rincon, Puerto Rico

Pollutants impact community health and ecosystem functions. Identifying the source of pollution is a major challenge. Working with communities to draw on local knowledge and conducting scientific field tests, Ridge to Reefs has developed innovative methods for tracking and identifying the source of pollutants contaminating waterways.

Once the source of the pollution has been identified, Ridge to Reefs continues working with the community to develop solutions. By combining innovative engineering, local materials, and a well-developed understanding of the source of the problem, we are able to develop sustainable solutions.

From treating piggery runoff in American Samoa to engineering urban water filtration in Puerto Rico to designing more low-impact housing developments in Maryland, we are developing real-time solutions to pressing environmental problems in watersheds around the world.
